HISTORY

Nara Shikamaru was the only son of Nara Shikaku and Yoshino. He showed signs of immense intellect when he was in his toddler days. He was a promising child. He would've already been finished with school by the time he hit ten if he hadn't been lethargic.

At first, Shikamaru hadn't the slightest intention to get himself involved in gangs or yakuza folk or whatever they called those people. He had intended to live up to a ripe and old age without having stumbled into anything troublesome. (But perhaps the problem here was that almost anything that he encountered was immediately deemed troublesome.) And being in a yakuza was a troublesome thing indeed. Police, blackmail, bribery, a lot more of illegal stuff, and a bit of life-endangering happenings every now and then.

Besides, he wasn't passionate or energetic enough to be able to carry on a life like that. Nor was he inclined to do evil either. Or something quite close like it.

But by some menacing force, he'd encountered one of those mafia or yakuza men and had gotten fiercely involved. It was by accident, really. He'd merely thought he was doing his work as a human being and a part of a partially civilized community. He didn't know that he'd helped some important underground mofo — or, yeah, whatever hip or insulting way of calling other people were nowadays.

Though he did have some doubts about that man's background. Wore too much black, he thought. A black tuxedo, black shoes, and dark-tinted sunglasses. Just like one of those bouncers at one of those clubs he'd passed by while going home once. Except fatter and shorter.

When the man had said something about showing his gratitude, Shikamaru had thought that it was something like giving him money. However, it turned out to be a horrific turn of events. As it was, inviting outsiders in their den — Shikamaru had thought it was some sort of restaurant until after three minutes of staying inside the place; those stares had been far too unnerving — was something illegal for those in Konohagumi. Unless, of course, the outsider was a potential member. And just so Shikamaru wouldn't get killed one way or another, the man had to tell his seniors that the boy was, indeed, a recruit.

Things came spiraling downwards after that. He got his tattoo, he met people, he talked to people. And he didn't know how it came to be, but he'd accidentally carved himself a spot inside that particular organization. (It was bound to happen, they'd been saying. He was far too smart to be left unnoticed. He, on the other hand, didn't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing.)
